Human Sushi is an animated short film that stands as an exciting experimental collaboration with artist Allegra Graziani, proudly developed as our submission for the AIFF AI Film Festival 2025. This project represents a significant exploration into the capabilities of artificial intelligence, as we utilized AI tools as extensively as possible throughout the creation process to push the boundaries of contemporary filmmaking. The foundational concept for "Human Sushi" originated back in 2018/2019, stemming from an idea to create visually striking still-life renders of sushi incorporating human elements, inspired by the aesthetic of high-quality product campaigns that contrast polished imagery with a disturbing subject. Allegra Graziani's important contribution to the management and creation of the AI-generated content was absolutely vital in bringing this vision from concept to animated reality.

The film transports the audience into a bizarre, dystopian world inhabited by mysterious hybrid creatures, blending human and fish forms. We follow the journey of an anthropomorphic fish through a reality oscillating between the absurd and the mundane, leading to a profoundly unsettling moment in a sushi restaurant with a menu composed entirely of human body parts. This disturbing reversal dissolves the conventional lines between eater and eaten, forcing a disorienting perspective shift. The entire surreal narrative culminates in the revelation that this grotesque odyssey is, in fact, the vivid dream of a night guard at an aquarium, a poignant reflection on empathizing with the lives and strange inner worlds of the creatures he observes every night.
